What are some examples of great UK destinations for day trips? We look at some fantastic locations that you will want to visit throughout the UK.
The Cotswolds
I think most holiday goers in the UK can agree that the Cotswolds are by far one of the best locations for a day trip throughout England, especially if you live somewhere around the Bristol, Bath or far north areas. The Cotwolds are hidden way in an areas of breathtaking natural beauty.
The area is full of cosy little villages and hills that roll as far as the eye can see. If you enjoy trips where you get the chance to spend your time driving around quaint country lanes and discovering tucked-away cute towns, then this is the place for you.
Once you arrive in the Cotswolds, we would recommend exploring Bibury so you can see the absolutely iconic Arlington Row. The homes here are gorgeous. After this, it is only a short drive until you find yourself in Stow-on-the-Wold. The Cotswolds are completely idyllic.
Bath
Not too far away from the peaceful Cotswolds is Bath, an old Roman city that has history buried in every nook and cranny. Bath is absolutely stunning from the moment you enter and is another one of England's best day trips out. You can even go for a trip to Bath via train if you live in the London area, as the train ride is only a few hours in length. Once you arrive in Bath, we would recommend taking a visit to the old Roman baths that you can still explore.
If you fancy a treat, then why not pop into the famous Sally Lunn's? She is famous in Bath for her delicious and iconic buns. They are delicious; we promise you won't be disappointed. One of Bath's most famous tourist activities is the Thermae Spa pool. This is perfect for resting your wearing feet after walking down all those beautiful cobbled streets.
The water in the Thermae Spa pool is heated purely through geothermal activity. Their outdoor pool is highly recommended. Be careful, though; it's possible to get sunburnt on days when it is especially sunny, so definitely coat yourself in plenty of sun protection. They have massage treatments available too, if you really want to relax and feel rejuvenated.
Peak District
The Peak District is one of the oldest national parks in the whole country. This is exactly why it is one of the UK's greatest and most gorgeous areas to explore.
If you want to get away from all the stressful hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, then this is definitely the choice for you.
If you do decide to visit the Peak District, then make sure you have a ramble around the area known as Winnats Pass.
The Underground River is a sight to behold, and there are historic cars that can be hired that will take you on a scenic tour of all the hills and valleys. The Peak District is truly picturesque and comes highly recommended.

Cambridge
Cambridge is another of the UK's absolute beauty spots. This is a city that is truly special, and you are very much missing out if you do not take any opportunities to visit. Not only does the city have an interesting and beautiful history, but there are also piles upon piles of delicious restaurants, bars, and cafes. Don't forget the university grounds too; they are stunning and a total must-see.
The city can be accessed from London on only a 45-minute long train, so it is very easy to access if you are wanting to see one of the UK's oldest and most stunning cities. Of course, Cambridge is a lot smaller than a lot of the UK's other cities like London and Liverpool, but the charm that the city holds is undeniable.
Once you arrive in the city, you should take a journey over to the King's College Chapel. Here stand highly ornate works which have been on display for several centuries. Whether it is Summer or Winter, Cambridge is always great for an extended stay or a day trip.
We recommend booking a ticket for a guided tour of the city so you can really absorb all of the knowledge that Cambridge holds.
Newcastle
Newcastle is known for being the UK's most northerly city. It is a fantastic choice for a day trip if you are heading either up or down the East coast and want to spend some time exploring. Over the past decades, Newcastle has actually made a great name for itself as being a fantastic location for a city break.
The city is rammed full of activities and places to see. If you're a fan of art, then take a look at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art or the Laing Art Gallery. These are great choices, especially if the weather takes a turn for the worst and you need to shelter from the rain for an hour or two.
Once you are done here, wander down to Sage and stroll down to have a gander at the Tyne Bridge. This is one of Newcastle's most iconic landmarks. It is not to be missed.
Brighton
As far as day trips around the UK go, this one is probably more of a summer option, although the city is just as enchanting in the winter months and definitely less busy.
If what you are after is some refreshing sea air, then this incredibly friendly city can be accessed from London by train, which takes only an hour.
Brighton has all the perks of a usual seaside town, such as delicious and iconic fish and chips, a large pleasure pier full of activities, and walks on the beach.
But Brighton has so many more sights to see beyond the standard seaside fare. The stunning Royal Pavilion is always recommended as a must-see.
The Pavillion is a former royal residence and has a very unique style that is known as Indo-Saracenic. The adjacent gardens are beautiful too.

St Ives
You can't talk about day trips in the UK without bringing up somewhere in Cornwall. St Ives is a stunning choice featuring sandy beaches and the famous Porthmeor Beach. This is one of the eight Blue Flag beaches in the county. The beach is very highly recommended, especially for those who enjoy swimming and surfing in the ocean.
But there is so much more to St Ives than just the beaches. The town is packed with activities such as galleries, museums, cafes, and more. If you love shopping, then there are plenty of independent stores to visit where you can find gorgeous handcrafted items.
The Jurassic Coast
Hidden away on the south coast of England is the Jurassic Coast. This is a UNESCO-protected zone of England that is incredibly unique. What makes the area so special is all the incredible geological formations and the ability for you to go fossil hunting all the way along the coast.
Once you arrive at The Jurassic Coast, take a wander down the beach and ensure that you keep your eyes peeled for something special. If you are patient and lucky enough, then there is a good chance that you will come across quite a few fossils. You can even take the fossils home with you; they are yours to keep!
Some people have even found whole pieces of dinosaur skeletons. The Jurassic Coast is truly a special and unique location. It is great for kids and adults alike and is an ideal spot for a day trip within England.
After spending your time scouring the beach for ancient fossils, you can wander over to Corfe Castle. This is an ancient village holding a ruined castle of the same name.
York
Everyone has heard of York. Of course, it can be found within the county of Yorkshire. York is an old Viking city that has a history which goes all the way back over one thousand years ago.
What makes the city so perfect for a day trip is the size. There is plenty to do on a day out in the city, but not too much that you would feel overwhelmed and that you are missing out on any one activity in particular.
One of the city's many highlights is the York Cathedral. We would recommend climbing up the stairs so you can see the incredible views available from the roof.
From here, you can really soak in the majesty of the beautiful city. After this, you should go explore the Shambles. These streets are so quaint and small that you almost feel as though you've been sucked into a novel.
